Welcome
Dance education enables students to discover their own innate capacity for communication of ideas, thoughts and feelings through the medium of dance. This high energy class provides students with experiences in African, African-American, Native American, Colonial, Salsa, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Hip -Hop and Liturgical dance forms. Students will explore the elements of dance including Time, Space, Force, Direction, Pathways, Levels and Shapes.
Through these elements students will be able to create their own dances as a soloist and as a member of a group. Dancers will learn specific content in this class including purposes of dance, form of dance, creative aspect of dance and the humanity of dance. This dance course will help prepare students for auditions and performances.

About Ms. Churn-Diallo
She is the Founder & Artistic Director of Imani Dance and Drum Company, started dancing as a young girl living in the Park Hill housing project in Louisville Kentucky. She has degrees in Pan-African studies, Cultural Anthropology and a Master’s in Teacher Leadership Education: focus Equity and Diversity from the University of Louisville. Certificate from The Institute for the Study of African Culture, Senegambia Educational and Exchange Program Senegal West Africa.
Ms. Churn-Diallo has studied and performed dance in six West African countries, London England, Japan, Canada, Paris France and throughout the United States.
In addition to African dance, she has studied, performed, and taught Tap, Ballet, Liturgical, Native American, Salsa, and Jazz. She has choreographed for Stage One Children's theater in Louisville, Experimental Black Actors Guild of Chicago, Actor’s Theater of Louisville, University of Louisville Theater Department, Theater Workshop of Louisville. Epcot Theme park in Florida and Kentuckana African American Arts Series.
Ms. Churn –Diallo has won many awards for dance: Kentucky Arts Council “Al Smith Fellowship ($5000) Kentucky Foundation for Women ($22,000) & ($4000), Jefferson Community College (Community Award), Education Arts, Inc. (Keeping the Arts Alive Award), Governor’s Award (Outstanding Achievements in the Arts Award), Louisville Metro Council (Certificate of Merit award), Muhammad Ali Center (Find Greatness Within award)
